Till date, Cameroon remains the only ever African team that has beaten Brazil in senior men’s football!

The Indomitable Lions recorded a famous 1-0 win over the Seleção in the 2003 Confederations Cup.

The match was Cameroon’s first at the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup. Up against a star-studded Seleçao, the Indomitable Lions were not starstruck.

Winfried Schäfer set up a combative 4-3-3 system with Kameni in goal; Tchato, Song, Mettomo and Geremi in defence; Foé, Pierrer Ndoumbe and Mbami in the centre of the park; and Njemba just behind Idrissou and Eto’o in attack.

Ronaldinho, Adriano “Impirador” and co lacked ideas against the fighting spirit of the Lions, and the game proved an even one between two quality teams, until Samuel Eto’o provided the sucker punch, lobbing the tall frame of Dida with a cracking shot from 22 yards in the 82nd minute.

Even though Brazil has won all 7 games against African teams at the World Cup, including 2 against Cameroon, Samuel Eto’o will be hoping for a re-enactment of the 2003 exploit, as he himself said, “We have done it before, and we can do it again.”
